International Departure Flight Guide
Your journey begins well before your flight takes off. The procedures you follow at the airport are a key part of your travel experience.
Here is a step-by-step guide for your smooth passage through the airport.
1. Arrival at the Airport
Plan to arrive at the airport at least 3 hours prior to your flight departure. Available transportation options include:
- HAVAŞ Shuttle
- Municipal Buses
- IZBAN Train
- Private Vehicle (Short and long-term parking available)
- Taxi
- Car Rental / Transfer Services
Clear and visible directional signs help you easily find the International Terminal.
You can use the Porter/Baggage Carts located at the terminal entrances, which operate with a refundable system.
2. Terminal Entrance and Security Screening
Upon entering the terminal:
- Bags and luggages are screened by X-ray.
- Passengers pass through a metal detector.
- Electronic devices such as laptops and tablets must be placed separately on the X-ray conveyor.
3. Luggage Wrapping

4. Check-in
You can complete check-in via:
- Airline Counters (present passport and ticket, receive boarding pass)
- Self Check-in Kiosks
- Online Check-in (if completed, proceed directly to baggage drop)
5. Baggage Drop
- Checked luggage (excluding cabin baggage) is handed over during check-in and tagged with your bag label. Keep this tag safe throughout your flight.
6. Passport Control
As you exit the country:
- For Turkish citizens the Overseas Departure Duty payment must be completed before passport control.
- Passport officers check your passport, visa, and travel documents.
- E-Passport Gates offer fast, practical passage for biometric passport holders aged 18+.
7. Second Security Check
- Cabin baggage is scanned again by X-ray.
- Remove tablets and laptops from your carry-on and place them in trays.
- Liquids, gels, and aerosols must not exceed 100ml per container and be in a transparent, resealable 1-liter bag.
- Sharp or hazardous items are prohibited.
- Remove coat, jacket, belt, and metal items before passing through the metal detector.
- Shoes may need to be removed or you may undergo a manual search.
- Collect all belongings carefully; contact Lost & Found for any forgotten items.
8. Duty-Free and Waiting Areas
- Duty-Free Shops offering a wide variety of tax-free products.
- Dining options including gluten-free, child-friendly, vegetarian, and fast food.
- Lounge services for comfortable waiting.
- Children’s play area for a safe and fun experience.
- Free Wi-Fi and complimentary water stations available.
9. Boarding
- Boarding starts approximately 45 minutes before departure.
- Check the gate number on your boarding pass and follow announcements and screen updates.
- Present your boarding pass and passport at the gate.
- Proceed to the aircraft either directly from tunnels or via bus transfer.
