“Izmir’s Liberation Day” Exhibition Opens at Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport

The “Izmir’s Liberation Day” exhibition, prepared in collaboration between Izmir Metropolitan Municipality’s Ahmet Piriştina City Archive and Museum (APİKAM) and TAV Airports, has opened at Adnan Menderes Airport – TAV Gallery.

Organized to commemorate the 103rd anniversary of Izmir’s liberation, the exhibition will be open to visitors at Adnan Menderes Airport – TAV Gallery until September 12, 2025. Featuring photographs compiled from the APİKAM archives, the exhibition focuses on the celebrations held in Izmir since 1923 under the name “Liberation Day.” It showcases how September 9 was celebrated in the early years of the Republic, through photographs and newspaper headlines that reflect the spirit of the era. The “Izmir’s Liberation Day” exhibition vividly portrays the enthusiasm and emotional intensity of the early celebrations.
